Acomplia
Acomplia (Rimonabant) is an anti-obesity drug that blocks selective CB1 endocannabinoid receptors. These are the same receptors that are responsible for increased appetite in those who use cannabis or who tend to eat out of emotional need. Blocking these biochemical receptors results in reduced appetite and over-eating. In addition to decreasing appetite, Acomplia increases metabolism of fats and sugars. Clinical trials have been very encouraging with significant weight loss and reductions in waist measurements.

Acomplia, like all medications, works best on certain individuals and should not be used at all by others. Patients with large waist circumference (102 cm or 40.2 inches in men and 88 cm or 34.6 inces in women) will mostly benefit from taking Acomplia. Children and adolescents should not take Acomplia. Acomplia should also be avoided by those with an underlying depressive disorder since Acomplia may cause changes in moods and may increase suicidal ideology. Those who are pregnant or nursing should not use Acomplia as injury to the developing infant may occur. If you have poor liver function or are allergic to Acomplia (or any of its components - including lactose) do not take Acomplia without discussing it with your physician.
If you have any chronic health conditions or take any medications (including over the counter medications) you should consult your physician about the risks of Acomplia use. Only your physician can properly evaluate your use of Acomplia in relation to your overall health.
Most of Acomplia’s side effects are mild and will decrease over the course of treatment. These side effects include nausea, vomiting, depression, mood changes, insomnia, dizziness, increased risk of fall, tendon pain or inflammation, back pain, muscle spasms, excessive sweating, fatigue, and increased incidence of bruising. Speak with your physician if any side effects become difficult to tolerate or do not start to taper off after the a few days of therapy. Contact your physician if you develop thoughts of suicide or hallucinations as these side effects may be dangerous.
Usually, 20mg tablets of Acomplia are taken as directed by a physician, before breakfast each day. Acomplia tablets should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. Diabetics may need to increase how often they check their glucose levels while on Acomplia.
If you do not obtain the results you are expecting from Acomplia, speak with your physician. Your physician can evaluate your full treatment plan and suggest ways to obtain these results.
